Extension of trademark term

After obtaining a trademark certificate, the right holder should bear in mind that he exclusive right to the trademark is not everlasting, but is limited to 10-year term.

In the Russian Federation, this term starts from the filing date of the application, rather than from the certificate issuance date. In order not to lose the exclusive right to a trademark, it is necessary to file a request for extending the registration term within the last year of the certificate validity.

What documents are required for extending the trademark registration

  • A request (soliciting extension of the trademark registration term).
  • A receipt certifying payment of the state fee.
  • A power of attorney (in a case you act through a legal representative).
